GUNSMITHING SERVICES: Parkerize Carbon Steel Bolt

  • $ 4500

Parkerizing, bonderizing, phosphating, or phosphatizing is a method of protecting a steel surface from corrosion and increasing its resistance to wear through the application of a chemical phosphate conversion coating.  It been used extensively on automobiles to protect unfinished metal parts from corrosion for years.

Parkerizing essentially works by creating a fine "crust" of Phosphate or Zinc crystals on the surface of the part.  These crystals are porous and do a good job of absorbing oil.  Doing so improves the lubricity of the part while also thwarting corrosion.

LRI's process does not involve "reinventing" any wheels.  Our application is little more than observance of fundamental metal preparation;  We sterilize the steel and avoid handling with bare hands prior to the chemical bath.

Doing so delivers a predictable surface finish that lasts.
