The industry standard elevated to a fresh look with our exclusive cutter style. The finished piece emulates the appearance of a splined axle. (Depth and flute count may vary depending upon caliber, cartridge selection, and barrel contour).

"Straight with a twist." Some additional CNC code transforms the industry standard straight pattern to a whole new look. The rate of twist is almost infinitely variable. If you want to "twist it up", just tell us how much to go! (Depth and flute count may vary depending upon caliber, cartridge selection, and barrel contour)

LRI offers a broad selection of barrel fluting options to suit a variety of tastes and weight reduction needs.

If weight reduction is your goal, these are the most aggressive patterns we offer:

Pattern "A" and "B" explained:

Important notes:

  • Fluting finished barrels.  Fluting requires rock-solid machine workholding.  Because of this, finished barrels (coated, blued, parkerized, etc) are almost certain to become marked/scratched during the process.   LRI will not accept any liability if your barrel is damaged in this way.
  • Ceracoat before fluting.  Coating a barrel blank before fluting never works.  The workholding always scratches the coated surface when the barrel is rotated.
  • Fluting before or after a barrel is fitted.  From a manufacturing perspective, it is better to flute your barrel after it has been fitted to a receiver.  It costs less to thread and chamber to the receiver as it is far easier to install the barrel when you don't have to worry about timing to a flute.
