GUNSMITHING SERVICES: Barrel Fluting
LRI offers a broad selection of barrel fluting options to suit a variety of tastes and weight reduction needs.
If weight reduction is your goal, these are the most aggressive patterns we offer:
- Pattern X
- Murder Hornet
Pattern "A" and "B" explained:

Important notes:
- Fluting finished barrels. Fluting requires rock-solid machine workholding. Because of this, finished barrels (coated, blued, parkerized, etc) are almost certain to become marked/scratched during the process. LRI will not accept any liability if your barrel is damaged in this way.
-
Ceracoat before fluting. Coating a barrel blank before fluting never works. The workholding always scratches the coated surface when the barrel is rotated.
- Fluting before or after a barrel is fitted. From a manufacturing perspective, it is better to flute your barrel after it has been fitted to a receiver. It costs less to thread and chamber to the receiver as it is far easier to install the barrel when you don't have to worry about timing to a flute.
