Description
While the thought of it might make a lot of folks’ cringe, TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding has saved a lot of guns from an early grave. With careful use and consideration for heat treated parts, it is very possible to restore a damaged receiver or bolt to a very high standard. Over the years we have taken on some jobs that most would have written off.
Receiver work:
Below is an example of a Remington M700 receiver that had been “clip slotted” for an XM-3 clone in a previous life. The ejection port feature was incorrectly machined which effectively ruined the action. Careful buildup with filler rod allowed the feature to be recreated and kept the receiver out of the grave.

This is a 3-position safety conversion on an M700 where the factory safety selector slot is welded up and finished to make the receiver appear as a single shot.
