Barrel Chambering and tooling:

Chambering a rifle barrel properly is a fundamentally simple but delicate process that involves a fair amount of care. LongRifles Inc.’s entire chambering reamer inventory is supplied exclusively by David Kiff, owner of Pacific Tool and Gauge. David’s reputation for manufacturing quality precision tooling is well known and respected worldwide. Our chamber reamer inventory includes complete sets of ultra precision ground reamer pilots made in .0002” increments for every caliber from .17 to .338. This represents a substantial investment on our part but we are convinced it is a vital component to delivering exceptionally accurate rifles to our customers. While we understand and welcome customers who wish to supply their own chambering reamers we will only use High Speed Steel reamers manufactured by Pacific Tool and Gauge so that our pilots are compatible and able to be fitted to each individual rifle bore prior to chambering. This, in addition to our proprietary chambering process, helps ensure that the barrel’s chamber is machined very, very concentric to the theoretical bore centerline and is an accurate representation of the cartridge’s dimensional tolerances. We also encourage customers who wish to experiment with hybrid and wildcat cartridge designs. Our policy is to absorb up to 50% of a reamer’s retail cost for customers who do not wish to purchase their own tooling.

Rifle Stocks:

We are committed to the idea that a rifle stock needs to look as good taken apart as it does when assembled. The care and quality invested in our inletting and pillar bedding demonstrates this philosophy. The use of unpainted, unfinished, and uninletted stock blanks is a vital component of this process and is why LongRifles Inc. will only build rifles on stocks that are free of any/all finish and inletting work.* Customers who wish to supply a stock are encouraged to do so but we require that all stock blanks be ordered in either a plain gel coat or unfinished wood so that they can be completed to our standards. * (Terry Leonard carbon/wood laminate Benchrest stocks are an exception)
