Receiver scope base screw holes occasionally suffer from alignment errors due to flawed machining. Here, we correct the issue by soldering a plug into the existing hole or by TIG welding (when appropriate) the hole closed. Next, we finish blend the plug/weld and complete it with a bored (circular interpolation) new hole in the correct location and recreate the threads using a CNC threadmilling toolpath.

Note that this process involves the use of acid chemical flux and heat. The existing finish on your receiver will become discolored as a result. This cannot be avoided. Please be aware of this prior to ordering. We offer an extensive menu of refinishing options, but if your gun is an heirloom/collector quality piece, this service may not be the right option. IF in doubt, call ahead of time.

The price listed is quoted as “per hole.” This service is classified as a repair for correcting a location error and/or damage from a previous repair attempt(s). Machining the new size/location is a separate service covered under LRI’s 8-40 scope base hole service. Our CNC boring and thread milling process avoids the positional challenges that come from trying to correct a hole location with a drill. This is especially relevant because the receiver and plug screw are certain to be different alloys and hardness.
